Rules of the Road

It is Chatham Transit Network’s desire to provide the most efficient, clean, and safest travel possible. In order to operate efficiently, each passenger is requested to abide by the following rules.

  • Fares must be paid upon boarding. CTN only accepts cash or fare cards and the driver cannot make change.
  • Transportation can be denied or refused due to misconduct by the passenger. Disruptive or abusive behavior to other passengers or the driver will not be tolerated.
  • No profanity or vulgarity is allowed while on board a vehicle or while requesting services.
  • Passengers are not permitted to eat, drink, use e-cigarettes, or use tobacco products in the vehicles.
  • All passengers must use seatbelts to ensure the safety of all individuals on the vehicle.
  • Children under the age of thirteen (13) must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Children aged eight (8) and younger, or weighing less than eighty (80) pounds, must be secured in a car seat by a guardian. CTN does not provide car seats and the driver cannot assist in securing a child in a car seat.
  • No screaming, loud talking, singing, or loud music.
  • No inappropriate display of affection or sexual activity to the driver or other passengers.
  • The driver will reserve the right to refuse transportation to any individual who appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • The driver is responsible for the safe transportation of all passengers. All instructions from the driver are to be followed by the passengers.
  • No pets allowed with the exception of service animals.
  • Passengers are requested to carry only what they can hold in their lap with the exception of assistive devices.
  • Drivers will not help carry packages.
  • The driver will wait three (3) minutes for the passenger to appear, then continue on route.
  • Riders should be ready at least one hour before your scheduled pick up time
  • Reservations cannot be made through the driver.
  • If you schedule a ride and then are not available when the driver arrives, it will be recorded as a no show. Riders are allowed two (2) no shows in six (6) months. After the second no show, you will be suspended from service for 90 days. If two (2) additional no shows are reported after the initial 90 day suspension, you will lose ridership privilege permanently.
  • The vehicle cannot backtrack and does not make multiple stops for passengers.
