Who can ride?
Anyone who lives in Chatham County. You do not need to be referred by an agency, and you do not need to qualify for anything. Chatham Transit is open to the public.
How do I book a ride?
Rides can be booked via Trip Portal, email or by calling 919-542-5136.
How much does it cost?
Our fares range from $2.00 - $13.00 each way. The full table is on our Fares page.
How far ahead do I need to book?
In-County Service needs 48 hours notice. Monday trips must be booked by noon on Thursday, and Tuesday trips by noon on Friday. Transit On Demand, in Pittsboro, is same-day — no advance notice needed.
What is Transit On Demand?
Transit On Demand is our same-day service in Pittsboro, starting October 1, 2026. You do not need to book 48 hours ahead — request a ride in the Trip Portal and we can usually pick you up the same day. Transit On Demand can only be booked in the Trip Portal. Everywhere else in Chatham County is covered by In-County Service, which needs 48 hours notice. It runs Monday to Wednesday 6:00am – 8:00pm; Thursday 6:00am – 9:00pm; Friday 6:00am – 10:00pm; Saturday 11:00am – 10:00pm; Sunday 1:00pm – 6:00pm.
Where can you take me?
Anywhere in Chatham County, from any address to any address. We also run programs for some out-of-county trips, including medical appointments. Call us to ask about a specific destination.
What hours do you run?
Service runs 4:00am – 6:00pm, dispatchers answer 7:00am – 5:00pm, and the office is open 8:00am – 5:00pm — Monday to Friday. See our holiday schedule for closures.
Do children ride free?
Children under 13 ride free with a parent or guardian, and they must have an adult with them. One aide or attendant also rides free. Children under 8, or under 80 pounds, need a car seat — please bring your own.
Are the vehicles wheelchair accessible?
Yes, all of our fleet.
What if I need to cancel?
Call 919-542-5136 between 7:00am – 5:00pm at least one hour prior to pick up time. If your ride is scheduled outside of dispatch hours, call 919-795-5808. If you do not cancel in time, the trip counts as a no-show and you will be charged the one-way fare before you can book again.
Can I get a ride to a medical appointment?
Yes. Non-Emergency Medical Transportation is available to every Chatham County resident. Out-of-county medical appointments are handled case by case. Call us to arrange one.
How do I apply for a job?
Fill in the employment application, or come by our office at 127 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Pittsboro.
How do I make a complaint?
Contact the Executive Director at (919) 542-5136 ext. 102, or write to P.O. Box 1032, Pittsboro, NC 27312. You will get a response within seven working days. If your complaint is about discrimination, see our Title VI and ADA complaint procedures.
